Trace form sign-ups to a volunteer

This is an optional setting that lets you trace an outside sign-up form back to the volunteer who shared it. It works with EveryAction and NGP VAN forms, and you turn it on for one piece of content at a time.

How to think about it

When you turn this on for a piece of content whose link is one of those sign-up forms, Echo tags the link so a completed form can be matched back to the volunteer who passed it along, and through their report, to the group it travelled through. It only applies when the link points at one of those form systems. If the link goes anywhere else, nothing is added. Leave it off unless you are running forms on those systems and want the trace.

Turn it on

1. In the campaign editor, add a piece of content whose link is an EveryAction or NGP VAN form.
2. In that asset, tick Append market source code.
3. Save the campaign. When a volunteer shares the form, their link carries the tag.

If this does not work

The setting has no effect on a non-EveryAction link

Echo re-checks the destination at the moment someone clicks. If the link is not an EveryAction or NGP VAN form by then, nothing is appended. A leftover setting from an edited URL cannot leak the volunteer’s identifier somewhere unexpected.
