Text messengers with Scale to Win
This connects your organization’s own Scale to Win account so you can text messengers about a campaign, using the same targeting Echo already used to email them. It can also build a report text on a schedule, for everyone who shared campaign content and hasn’t reported on it. It is optional and only appears for organizations that connect an account.
How to think about it
Section titled “How to think about it”Echo does not send texts. When you prepare a campaign text, or a report text schedule builds a draft, Echo builds the contact list, creates a draft campaign in your organization’s own Scale to Win account, and loads that list into it. It stops there. Someone at your organization opens Scale to Win, writes the message, and sends it. Connecting an account and building a draft never puts a text in front of a messenger by itself.
Connect your account
Section titled “Connect your account”You need your own Scale to Win account and an API key from it.
- In Scale to Win, go to Organization Settings → API Keys and create a key.
- Turn on three permissions on that key:
subaccounts:read, campaigns:write, andcampaigns:read. - Copy the key ID and the key secret. Scale to Win shows the secret once and cannot show it again.
- In Echo, go to Settings and find the Scale to Win card. Paste the key ID and secret, then select Connect account.
- Once the key checks out, a Subaccount field appears. Pick the subaccount you want Echo to use, then select Save connection.
Only admins see this card and only admins can connect, test, or disconnect an account.
Text messengers about a campaign
Section titled “Text messengers about a campaign”- Open the campaigns list, or the Campaign texts tab on the Texts page. If you are an admin and your organization is connected, any published campaign shows a Text messengers button. Managers and organizers never see this button, even when the organization is connected.
- Select it. A panel opens showing how many messengers will get a text.
- Select Prepare text campaign. Echo builds the list, uploads it to Scale to Win, and loads it as contacts, showing progress as it goes.
- When it finishes, the panel shows how many contacts loaded and a link to open the draft campaign directly in Scale to Win. Go there to write and send the message.
You can run this again for the same campaign. Each run creates a new draft campaign in Scale to Win, so if you have already sent one round of texts, check Scale to Win before running it a second time to avoid texting the same messenger twice. The campaign row remembers how many times you have run it and when the last one finished, as Texted N×. Report texts never count toward it.
The Texts page
Section titled “The Texts page”The Texts page puts both kinds of text and their history in one place. On a computer, open Texts in the sidebar, directly under Campaigns. On a phone, open Campaigns and tap the Texts card at the top. The card shows where report texts stand: Report texts are off, Report texts are paused, Report text ready to send, or your schedule, such as “Mondays and Thursdays at 9:00 AM Eastern”.
Only admins see the page, and only when your organization has connected Scale to Win. If the connection is failing, the page still opens and tells you how to fix it in Settings.
The page has two tabs. Report texts opens first. Campaign texts lists your published campaigns. The history sits below both.
Text people who haven’t reported
Section titled “Text people who haven’t reported”Echo builds a report text for you on a schedule. At each scheduled time it creates one draft in your Scale to Win account, loaded with everyone who’s waiting on a report. You open the draft, write the message, and send it. Echo never sends it. Report texts live on the Report texts tab, and only admins can set them up.
Turn on a schedule
Section titled “Turn on a schedule”- Open the Report texts tab.
- Under How often, pick one:
- Every weekday builds a draft Monday to Friday.
- Twice a week builds on two days you pick. Monday and Thursday are ticked to begin with.
- Once a week builds on one day you pick. Monday is ticked to begin with.
- Select Turn on report texts.
Drafts always build at 9:00 AM Eastern. You can’t change the time.
Select Change to pick a different rhythm or different days, then Save. The change starts with the next build, and a draft that’s already ready stays as it is. Select Turn off to stop. It doesn’t ask you to confirm, and you can turn report texts back on whenever you like. Once they’re off, the page shows that instead of a ready draft. Drafts Echo already built stay in the history with their Open links.
Who goes in a draft
Section titled “Who goes in a draft”Someone goes in when they shared something at least 2 days ago and no more than 10 days ago, haven’t filed a report on it, and haven’t marked it I didn’t share this. The 2-day wait gives people time to see how their share landed.
- Only content a messenger shares or posts counts. Content they only engage with doesn’t, and neither does anything archived or on a campaign that isn’t published.
- Each shared item goes in one draft and is never picked up again, even if the messenger shares it again later. An item that turns 10 days old without going in a draft drops out for good.
- Each person gets one text, however many items they’re waiting on.
- Someone missing a mobile number or a name is left out of the draft, and the draft counts them as people who won’t get it. They stay waiting, so if they fix their profile before the item turns 10 days old, they can go in a later draft.
- A draft covers every live campaign that has someone waiting.
What the page shows
Section titled “What the page shows”- Nobody waiting. Echo doesn’t build a draft, and the page says nobody was waiting that day.
- Building. The page shows progress. A draft is usually ready in a few minutes.
- Draft ready. The page shows how many people get the text, how many more are waiting but won’t get it, and the campaigns the draft covers. It lists 5, and Show more lists the rest. Select Open in Scale to Win to write the message and send it there. People in this draft won’t be in the next one, so send it before the next scheduled build. The page shows when that is.
- Couldn’t finish a draft. Nobody was marked as texted. If the page names a draft and it turns up in Scale to Win, it’s incomplete, so don’t send it. Echo tries again at the next scheduled time.
If Echo misses a scheduled time, it doesn’t make it up that day. The next scheduled day picks up whoever is waiting then. Anything that turned 10 days old in between has dropped out.
The link in the text
Section titled “The link in the text”Everyone gets the same plain Echo link. It opens Your reports, where each messenger sees what they still owe a report on. Echo turns off Scale to Win’s link shortener for report texts, so the link goes out as the plain Echo link. Campaign texts keep your account’s own setting. Keep the link in the message you write.
The draft is named for the day Echo built it, for example “Echo: Report text, Sep 28”. It names no campaigns. Only the first name, phone number, and Echo’s internal id for each person go to Scale to Win.
If report texts pause
Section titled “If report texts pause”If Scale to Win stops accepting your saved key, report texts pause. That can happen on any text, whether a schedule built it or someone prepared a campaign text. While they’re paused, nothing builds, the schedule card reads Paused, and the page tells you to reconnect in Settings instead of showing a ready draft. That draft is still in the history with its Open link.
Report texts start again when you reconnect in Settings, or when Test connection passes. Disconnecting Scale to Win turns report texts off, and after you reconnect they start off. Turn them on again when you’re ready.
Text messengers from the Texts page
Section titled “Text messengers from the Texts page”The Campaign texts tab lists your published campaigns, newest published first. Search by campaign name to narrow the list. It shows 20 campaigns at a time, and Show more loads the next 20.
Each row has the same Text messengers button as the campaigns list, and it opens the same panel. See Text messengers about a campaign.
Check what has already gone out
Section titled “Check what has already gone out”The history below both tabs lists every draft Echo has created, newest first, including the ones your schedule built. Filter it with All, Report texts, or Campaign texts. The last 5 show, and Show more loads 10 older ones.
Each row shows when the draft was created, how many people it reached, and its status: In progress, Ready, or Failed. Reached is the number Scale to Win loaded after dropping landlines and opted-out numbers. A failed run reads None. A report text’s row also shows how many campaigns it covered. Tap that line to see the campaign names. It lists 5, and Show more lists the rest. A ready row has an Open link to the draft.
Before you text twice in a day
Section titled “Before you text twice in a day”If a draft of either kind was created in the last 24 hours, a campaign’s Text messengers panel warns you before you prepare another one. That includes a report text your schedule built. The warning shows when that draft was created, and never who created it. It appears only in that panel. The report text schedule doesn’t show it.
Check Scale to Win before you go ahead. A messenger who got the first text may get a second one close behind it.
What the counts mean
Section titled “What the counts mean”The panel shows two numbers: how many messengers Echo will text, out of how many matched the campaign’s targeting. The gap between them is messengers Echo cannot text: anyone missing a first name, missing a phone number, or whose phone number does not reduce to a standard 10-digit US number, with or without a leading 1. A phone number can be present and still fall into this gap if it is in the wrong format, has too few or too many digits, or is a non-US number. Ask the messenger to fix their name or phone number in their Echo profile, then run this again.
Once contacts load, Scale to Win reports its own count, which can be lower than what Echo uploaded. Scale to Win drops landlines, numbers already opted out, duplicates, and invalid numbers on its side, so its count is the more accurate one for what you can actually reach.
Copy the campaign link
Section titled “Copy the campaign link”Every published campaign has a Copy link control next to Text messengers. It copies a link straight to that campaign in Echo, so you can send it somewhere other than a Scale to Win text, such as a follow-up email or a message you write yourself.
The link only works for a messenger your organization already targets. Anyone else who opens it, or opens it while signed out, is asked to sign in first and only sees the campaign if it is actually theirs to see.
