Map your networks

This is where you list the groups you can reach so your organization can send you content that fits them. Do it once at the start, then add a group whenever you join a new one.

A network is one group you can reach. It can be a group text, a Facebook group, a church, or your block. Each one is either online or in person, has a size, which is the total number of people in it, and two short descriptions: who is in the group, and what the group talks about. Be plain and honest in those descriptions. Echo reads them to decide which content reaches you, so a vague description means you miss things you could have shared, and a puffed-up one sends you content that does not fit. For size, give the real number of people, not your best day. List the small trusted groups, not only the big ones. A group of neighbors who know your name carries more weight than a large page where you are a face in the crowd.

Until you map your first network, the Your networks page shows two worked examples — an Instagram following and a church small group — so you can see what a finished entry looks like. They’re labeled Example and disappear once you add your own.

  1. Open Networks (My Networks on a computer).
  2. Select Add network. The first time, the button reads Add your first network.
  3. Choose the type. Digital covers social media, group chats, forums, and online communities. In Person covers church, work, neighborhood, and community groups. Select Continue.
  4. Describe the network, then select Continue:
    • What’s it called?: a name only you need to recognize.
    • Where does it live?: the platform — digital networks only.
    • What does it talk about?: the topics that come up.
    • Who’s in it?: the people in it.
    • The small ⓘ next to a question explains how Echo uses your answer.
  5. Add the details, then select Continue:
    • A digital network needs an answer to How active are you here? Setting where the audience is based is optional.
    • An in-person network needs a state under Where is this audience based? and an answer to How often do you meet?
    • Both need How many people are in this network? Enter the total number of people in the group.
  6. Check the summary — the pencil next to a section takes you back to edit it — then select Add network.

Your new network now appears in your list. Echo reads your two descriptions to tag it and match campaigns to it. The tags appear a moment later.
